Every day I stumble across new and interesting things here in Auckland. Are you curious about this week’s favourites? Then read on!
Favourite City Escape – Rangitoto
If you’re in Auckland, an absolute must-visit would be Rangitoto. It’s not only a prominent landmark from the shore and the youngest volcano in New Zealand, it’s also a very nice day trip to escape the city hassle and go for a hike. Depending on your fitness, you can walk/tramp different tracks from under an hour up to 8 hours. On the peak, which is 259 metres above sea level, you will be rewarded with amazing panoramic views of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf. It’s really one of my favourite places and I can only recommend anyone to visit Rangitoto! Check the website of Fullers for the ferry timetables, or to book your ferry ticket in advance.
Favourite View – Skies in New Zealand
This week I’ve seen all kinds of weather types. Ok, it hasn’t snowed yet, but in the mornings it sometimes feels like it could happen every second. Even though I prefer sunshine all day every day, those weather changes bring along quite some spectacular skies. Each day it’s different, and I really enjoy those special moments. Watching the sky here in New Zealand must be one of my favourite things to do. And if you think that’s boring, just take a moment and watch it yourself. I’m sure you will love it.
Favourite Movie – The Hunt for the Wilderpeople
My flatmates have been talking a lot about this movie, so this week it was finally time to watch it myself. My first ever real New Zealand movie. I didn’t know what to expect… But I have to say that is was a great laugh and definitely gave some insides of the life in New Zealand. If you got the chance to watch the movie, you should certainly do! And if you see the scenes with the hottie – nope, no spoiler yet – remember that this is currently part of my daily life. Must be New Zealand… 😉
Favourite Night Out – Ponsonby Central
Ponsonby is one of my favourite suburbs in Auckland. If your wallet is big enough, you can spend a fortune there. From exclusive designer boutiques, to fine dine restaurants, this is the place to be. Unfortunately, my wallet doesn’t allow to spend on all this fancy stuff, but if you know where to look, you can also have a great night on a limited budget. At Ponsonby Central, for example, you will find very attractive restaurants, bars, stores and an indoor market. They themselves call it a fresh approach to the local food and retail scene, and I think they succeeded in that. It feels cosy and casual at the same time, and I like how they play with the space. Ponsonby Central also houses one of the best burger eateries in Auckland – just saying…
Favourite Stroll – Meola Reef Reserve
Oh gosh, another beautiful spot here in Auckland. Are you already getting bored? I’m certainly not. I just can’t get enough of all these green spaces here. And Meola Reef Reserve is one of them. Even though it’s autumn/winter, it’s still very lush and green there and it’s a perfect spot to walk your dog as well. If you go to the top of the reserve, you’ll get views on the harbour bridge, and when it’s windy you can watch kite surfers from there. I could also imagine that this would be the ideal spot for an afternoon picknick and watch the sun set. This week I had a little break there during my run. It was just too beautiful to race through the reserve, so I took a moment to enjoy it.
Have a good weekend you all!
