Back in Holland – What happened?

Holland AnniewhereIgo

Exactly one year ago, while Holland was celebrating the King’s birthday, I left everything behind in order to fulfil my biggest dream: live and work in New Zealand. That day, I said goodbye to my loved ones, not knowing when we would see each other again. Well, one thing I never imagined to happen is, that I would be separated from them for such a long time and actually achieving the goals I defined before I started this journey. But I also didn’t expect to be back in Holland around the same time one year later, not having my own place to live anymore, all my belongings stored in boxes, waiting for the completion of my very first house.  Continue Reading

Waiheke – Must visit when in Auckland

Onetangi Bay Waiheke AnniewhereIgo

Auckland City has a lot of different things to offer. But sometimes it’s also nice to get out of the city hassle in order to enjoy a quieter environment. Easy task, if you ask me! Especially when there’s a big range of day trips you can do from the city, even when you’re traveling on a budget. One of my favourite day trips must definitely be to Waiheke, the second largest island in the Hauraki Gulf. A few days ago, I spent there a Sunday with friends, and once again, it felt like being on a holiday for a week.  Continue Reading

Back on track

Back on track AnniewhereIgo

Since I receive more and more concerning messages, whether I’m still alive, it must be time for an update. Yes guys, hereby I declare myself alive and kicking, meaning I’m finally back on track. My sincere apologies for the absence lately! Even though I don’t have to explain myself to anyone, I still want to give you a little inside on the cause of my absence. Continue Reading

The bad luck continues

The bad luck continues AnniewhereIgo

As if I already haven’t had enough bad luck, yet it strikes again. Anyone who’s following me on social media might have noticed that I had a little accident this week. Instead of recovering from my ankle injury, some higher power apparently decided to take it a step further. So right now, not only my right ankle is injured, but also my big toe on the same side. Happy days! Continue Reading

Friday Favourites #6

FridayFavourites AnniewhereIgo

It’s finally Friday, which means the week is almost over. And you know what? I’m kind of glad that I can leave those last couple of days behind. It just wasn’t a good week for me. Not only because of my injured ankle, but also because of my ‘somehow’ bad mood. You see the correlation? Anyway, I’m already looking forward to a fresh start on Monday. But before it’s time for that, I want to share this week’s favourites with you. Fortunately, there were also some positive elements after all. Continue Reading

There is no success without hardship

There is no success without hardship AnniewhereIgo

Oh yes, this is so true. Must be the story of my life. After last week’s success story, apparently it was time for me to hit bottom. I could have known – it was only a matter of time. Since my arrival in New Zealand, I asked a lot of my body. I ran on new terrain, tried new kinds of exercises and barely rested. But I also felt stronger and wanted to test my limits. On top of that, my 22k run made me feel invincible. And guess what, it seemed that I’m not. Continue Reading

Defining New Goals – Running Auckland

RunningAuckland AnniewhereIgo

Last Sunday I went out for a long run. The weather forecast was sunny, I had enough rest and prepared myself pretty well, as in: I stuffed myself with enough pancakes beforehand – yup, pancakes always do the trick for me. In short, the perfect circumstances for a long run! Moreover, I found a route on the Internet, that seemed to be a very nice loop (partly along the coast), so I wouldn’t have to run the same track twice. I knew that this loop would be about 15k, which also seemed a good training distance to me. Perfect! What I didn’t know, however, but certainly could have known when using my outstanding mathematical skills, was that the route would be more than 15k, since I started running from where I live and not the spot as designated on the map. Apparently, I wasn’t bothered too much. But what I really didn’t know before, was that my run would go so well, that I ran the longest distance ever without even blinking. And this on a random Sunday – ohh yeah, Annie is back on track! 😉

1 Month in Auckland – The Recap

1MonthInAuckland AnniewhereIgo

It’s June! A fresh new month with hopefully heaps of new opportunities. At the same time, the beginning of June marks the end of my very first month in Auckland as well. So, it’s time for a short recap. What are the things that I still like? And what about the things I don’t like? Has Auckland changed since the last time I’ve been here? Definitely yes, but also no. To give you an impression, I’ll sum up the things I’ve noticed until now. Continue Reading
